Why Extreme Makeover Home Edition Rocks.

OK I don't normally watch TV because of all the paralysis that comes with it, but if there is one show that I would choose above the few that I enjoy, it would be this:

So basically, people send their video sob stories into the show and they then decide which person most needs the new home treatment.

Sometimes it's people with rare disease struck down at an early age, and other times it's people who adopt kid after kid leaving them in extreme financial hardship.

I guess I'll just get to the point.

The following reasons are why this series absolutely brings me alive:

  1. It shows the horrors that we are willing to endure in times of selflessness or injustice
  2. It shows how humble and appreciative we can be when given life-changing news
  3. It shows our capacity to unite and work together towards a good cause
  4. It shows the capacity to which we can love each other and the goodness that comes from it
I guess there will be those of you that will nitpick this show and ask questions like "what happens after the home is built and they have to maintain it", "what happens to the other sob stories that didn't get chosen" and so on.

However, it's not even about that, but about the fact that if a show like this can touch the hearts of so many simply because of the boundless demonstration of love to a complete stranger, then think of the repercussions of engaging in our own Extreme Makeovers with people we interact with on a daily basis?
